What are NFL Prop Bets?

NFL prop bets offer something different for our football fans who like to go beyond just point spread and moneyline betting. NFL Props (short for “proposition” bets) put the power in your hands, giving you an entirely different way to place NFL bets in Canada and across the Western Hemisphere. The best NFL prop bets come during Super Bowl season, when hundreds of tasty props hit the Super Bowl odds board at Bodog Sportsbook.

You might already be familiar with NFL spreads, the over/under and parlay bets, or this could be your very first time betting on football. Either way, NFL props are easy to understand and bet on here at Bodog. We’ll show you how it all works in a moment. For now, the key thing to remember is that when you bet on props, you aren’t betting on who wins or loses the game.

How do NFL Prop Bets work?

The simplest way to understand exactly what NFL prop bets are (or any sports betting prop for that matter) is by looking at what they aren’t. When you bet on point spreads, moneylines and totals at Bodog, you’re betting on the outcome of the game: the final score, and who came out on top. Not so with NFL props. These are for anything else that happens during the game, like how many passing yards or touchdowns each team racks up.

Prop bets are hugely popular in football for this very reason. This is such a complex sport, with so many stories unfolding before our eyes away from the scoreline itself, that the prop bets just keep rolling in – especially at Bodog Sportsbook.

There are quite literally dozens or even hundreds of props available on any one NFL game, with Bodog’s Prop Builder proving increasingly popular with our football bettors. Carries, pass completions, receiving yards, receptions and even the result of the first drive can all be added to your Bet Slip in one fell swoop.

Generally speaking, the props at Bodog land in three different buckets: NFL player props, NFL team props, and NFL game props. As an example of a player prop, you could place a bet on how many touchdowns Patrick Mahomes will pass for in a particular game, with the over/under set at 2.5. Mahomes’ odds will depend on the level of opponent and Mahomes’ current form, among other variables. You can quickly add that particular player prop and others to your betting list using our Prop Builder.

NFL Prop Bets at Bodog

NFL Player Props

Of all the different props at Bodog Sportsbook, NFL player props are easily the most popular. This is where you bet on your favourite players and whether they can reach their given targets in categories like Touchdown Passes and Rushing Yards – either for a single game or an entire season.

Anytime Touchdown Scorer

Some NFL player prop bets only require the player in question to hit the stat sheet once for you to get paid out. Anytime Touchdown Scorer is one of the busier NFL props here at Bodog; in a matchup like Kansas City versus San Francisco, you can bet on whether star players like Patrick Mahomes, George Kittle and Deebo Samuel will find the end zone.

Total Receiving Yards O/U

In years gone by, the likes of Jerry Rice, Randy Moss and Terrell Owens would have dominated Bodog props betting for the most receiving yards. In their time, these boys were the best at fighting for every inch and would have been on many bet slips heading into a new NFL season.

Today, the likes of Cooper Kupp, Davante Adams, Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase are sure to feature heavily in NFL player props betting when their sides take the field.

Total Rushing Yards O/U

Frank Gore, Emmitt Smith and Walter Payton are three of the names that might spring to mind when thinking of rushing yards props. These star running backs are football royalty, and would have been at the summit of our NFL prop bets once upon a time.

Nowadays, the likes of Christian McCaffrey, Derrick Henry and Kyren Williams are the frontrunners.

Player to Score 1st Touchdown

Who will reach the end zone first? Much like our Anytime Touchdown Scorer prop, this is one of our most popular NFL player props at Bodog. You’re betting on the identity of the player who scores those valuable six points, so for a quarterback to win the prop, he has to run the ball in, catch a “Philly Special,” or somehow throw it to himself.

Total Passing Touchdowns O/U

The likes of Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen tend to be pretty high on this player prop bet list, but on a game-by-game basis, it’s difficult to say exactly who will be the king of the passing touchdown.

The beauty of bets like this is that it’s never over until it’s over – which is NFL betting in a nutshell really.

Total Passing Yards O/U

The passing yards player prop bet, much like the passing touchdowns prop, is all about the quarterbacks. Let’s be honest, they are the players that grab most of the attention, and it isn’t difficult to see why.

Bodog allows players to bet passing yard totals for a single game, or over the course of the season.
